Reflex Nutrition Micellar Casein

Reflex Nutrition's Micellar Casein provides a lengthy release of amino acids because of its unique digestibility
Read more...

Description
Reflex Nutrition's Micellar Casein provides a lengthy release of amino acids because of its unique digestibility. It forms a gel in the stomach, slowing the transit time in the digestive system thus slowing the digestion of the protein. This makes it ideal when a slow and lengthy supply of protein is needed. The micellar casein offered by Reflex Nutrition is manufactured by ultra filtration of skimmed milk - this process removes excess lactose and fat. The resulting raw material is about 85% protein.

In a ground breaking study, carried out by Dr Yves Boire, the differences in metabolic responses of whey protein and casein were individually observed over a 7 hour period in 16 young & healthy volunteers. The findings were very interesting, and have shown that both Casein and Whey have very different applications when it comes to maintaining and building muscle tissue. The most important findings were:

1) Casein was found to inhibit muscle breakdown by 34% over a 7 hour period

2) Blood plasma amino acid concentrations remained significantly higher over a 7 hour period with casein compared to whey

3) Blood plasma amino acid concentrations dropped dramatically after 3 hours in the group consuming whey

4) Although blood plasma levels dropped dramatically with whey, the net increase in protein synthesis was boosted by 68%

The reason for Casein's ability to sustain such a lengthy release of amino acids is because of its unique digestibility. It forms a gel in the stomach, slowing the transit time in the digestive system, and thus slows the digestion of the protein. Micellar Casein from Reflex Nutrition is an instant mixing time-release protein product that is made from fresh skimmed milk. It is not to be confused with acid casein or caseinates which are made using manufacturing processes which can denature the protein. The protein found in Micellar Casein is un-denatured, providing approximately 80% Casein protein and 20% Whey protein.

"Surprisingly, I absolutely LOVE the banana flavour, I look forward to it unlike other shakes. 400ml s/s milk 3 of the small scoops is about right, delicious. with all water gets very frothy. The mint choc is MINGING hence why only 3stars as this review is about taste only. But perhaps its about finding the right combo. footnote: its amazing how thick/goupy it goes with such little powder if you dont add enough liquid."

"Excellent Casein powder. I have had both the Strawberry and Chocolate now. The Chocolate is by far the best flavour. Slighty chalky but this is to be expected because the protien isn\'t water soluble, although this can be elimated if you make it with milk. "

"I mix this with skimmed milk and down before getting some shut eye (its not to my taste mixed with water I have to say). Very frothy and has a kind of malty quality to it. Plesant enough though."
